MiraCosta College earned top honors at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, bringing home a total of six regional (Western United States) and three national awards for the college's publications, social media and marketing work. Superintendent/President Dr. Francisco Rodriguez was also awarded the Pacesetter of the Year award. The award recognizes a community college president/superintendent or chancellor for his/her vision and commitment to best practices in the communication field.
In the regional competition, the college competed against 30 other colleges that submitted hundreds of entries, and received the following awards:

In national competition, the college competed against more than 250 colleges that submitted more than 1,800 entries in the Paragon competition, and won the following:
- Gold, Direct Mail Campaign
- Silver, College Annual Report
- Bronze, College Social Media Effort (student blogs)
Also at the conference, MiraCosta College’s interim director of marketing and communications, Cheryl Broom, presented a breakout session on the college's experience in rebranding itself and building a stronger visual identity.
