Pedestrian Killed On I-5 In Encinitas
Authorities believe the victim may have been homeless.
ENCINITAS, CA — A pedestrian walking in the lanes on Interstate 5 was struck and killed near San Elijo State Beach Monday afternoon.
The fatal crash shut down part of the southbound side of the freeway headed into the afternoon rush hour. The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, north of Birmingham Drive in Encinitas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A white Tesla struck the pedestrian, who authorities described as homeless. The person died at the scene. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The victim's identity was not immediately available, and no arrests were announced.
