Rancho Coastal Humane Society Has Influx of Kittens

If you've been thinking about adopting, now is the time.

Kitten Season has arrived at Rancho Coastal Humane Society. That means that, during the next few weeks, we're going to have a bunch o' baby kitties arriving at the shelter from the foster homes where they have been growing for the past month or two.

"Kitten season—the time of year when cats typically give birth to their litters—started late for us this year," says RCHS spokesman John Van Zante. "Now it's here. We're up to our ears in kittens with more scheduled to arrive from their foster homes during the next couple weeks."

RCHS Medical Manager Kathy Zerkle keeps a running tally so the shelter has space for each kitten when it arrives.

“The list changes day to day, sometimes hour to hour,” Zerkle says. “Several kittens arrived during the past few days from the private homes of our foster care volunteers. If these kittens are adopted, we'll have room for several more litters scheduled to arrive in the next few weeks. If not—well, we just need to make sure they're adopted by then."

Van Zante says there are four ways the public can help:
