Rat Poison Survivor Wants to Be Your Best Friend

Jake was a stray that arrived at the shelter feeling sick from eating rat poison, he's now healthy, happy and beyond lovable.

"Jake" is the Pet of the Week at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas. He’s a 4 year old, 68 pound, neutered, male, Australian Cattle Dog – Shepherd mix.

If you sit down, Jake will be happy to sit on your lap. He has no clue that he’s a big dog. He can be a bit shy, but you’ll soon see that he’s happy, outgoing, and active.

Jake was a stray. When he arrived at the county animal shelter in Carlsbad he was not feeling well and he seemed very tired. Tests showed that Jake had eaten rat poison. He became one of the favorite dogs in the shelter and he got lots of special care. He was perfectly healthy and he had gained 12 pounds by the time he was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society through the FOCAS program. Now Jake’s ready for his forever home.
