Review: Nekter's 3 Day Cleanse

The Encinitas store sells 1 to 5 day cleanses which involve drinking six bottles of juice a day which are made from 15 pounds of fruits and veggies.

I've never successfully done a cleanse before. I did the master cleanse (lemons, water, cayenne pepper and maple syrup) for about a half day once before giving in to hunger pangs. A cleanse in my mind was just another word for fasting, but with detoxifying results.

When Nekter in Encinitas asked if I wanted to try the 3-day cleanse I decided to take on the challenge. I arrived at the juicebar located at 127 N. El Camino Real
Suite C near CVS and Ralphs. Picking up the bottles was super easy. All 24 bottles were packed in a cooler reusable bag ready for me to take home. I put them into the fridge in clusters of six. Each bottle is labled one, two, three, etc. They gave me the classic, organic, and advanced cleanses to try. The directions are simple, go in order of numbered bottles and take one every couple hours. Snack on raw almonds or avocado if needed.

Day one was the hardest. One hour and one bottle into it, I was already hungry. I snacked on the avocado and almonds which helped but I was still hungry at 10:30 a.m. Then something awesome happened, the more I drank the bottles throughout the day, the less hungry I felt. I even went out to dinner with friends and sipped my juice without caving in. Definitely let your friends know you are doing a cleanse so they can support you. By the end of the night, I didn't feel like i needed the 6th bottle, but I but drank it anyway.

Waking up on day two felt great. I noticed an almost two pound weight loss (probably water weight) and the cleanse seems easier. On day two I did the advanced cleanse like a pro. The goal of the cleanse is to gently help your body eliminate toxins and rebalance your entire system, I felt like this was happening. My body was getting 15 pounds of fruits and vegetables a day through juicing.

The third and final day started with a positive scale experience, another pound and a half gone.  Who doesn't love seeing the pounds disappear, even though weight loss is not the purpose of the cleanse. Day three seemed to be the easiest as far as hunger went. I did the organic cleanse of this day. As far as taste goes, I enjoyed every single juice, the first day of the classic cleanse was probably my favorite. On each day the dessert ones (bottle #6) were my favorite.

I ended the cleanse feeling good. Enjoying the fact that I completed the cleanse, lost almost four pounds, and really enjoyed snacking on raw almonds and avocado. Two things I normally wouldn't just snack on.

I definitely recommend doing a cleanse that's totally prepared for you. You won't cheat because you have everything you need already made and ready to drink.

If you do the three day, start on a Monday. I started on Thursday and that went into Saturday making it harder to resist temptation when out with friends. If you aren't sure about cleanses, try just the one day. It's a great reboot for your body. Prices start at $55 for the one day.

Post-cleanse, plan on eating mostly fruits, vegetables, and slowly incorporating in other non processed foods.
