Santa Delivers Encinitas Shelter Pets to Locals on the Nice List

This video is sure to make you smile!

Instead of quickly returning to the North Pole, Santa stuck around a while in North County, surprising three families with new animal companions from the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

All of Wednesday's adoptions were set up through the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, which makes sure the families and their new pet are a good match before Santa makes his delivery.

According to RCHS's John Van Zante, families go through the regular adoption process. They fill out an application, meet the pet, and take part in an interview. After that (if the adoption is approved) the adopter (parents, adult children, spouses, etc) or one of our staff members will tell the recipient that they're not getting the pet. Their reasons are probably something like, "This isn't the right time. The pet was already adopted. The pet isn't a good match for you. The pet is temporarily unavailable." Or some other "excuse."

The person who wants the pet delivered pays the adoption fee and they make a donation of a minimum $100 to RCHS. (Santa doesn't charge for his services. All of the money goes to help the animals at RCHS.)

The deliveries and day went off without a hitch thanks to:

ALL of the care providers and volunteers in the RCHS Adoptions program
    RCHS Medical team
    RCHS adoption counselors
Christina (who plotted Santa's delivery course...no easy task)

    CBS 8     Producer  Simone
                   Photographer Charlie
                   Reporter Steve Price
                   Angie Lee and Carlo Cecchetto
                   to Barbara (Santa's helper)
