ENCINITAS, CA — A train fatally struck a pedestrian Tuesday in an ocean-front neighborhood near Batiquitos Lagoon, authorities reported.

The rail fatality occurred in the area of Ashbury Street and North Vulcan Avenue in Encinitas shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The pedestrian died at the scene, Lt. David Chandroo said.
