Domingo's Italian Deli Plans New Eatery

The old school style Italian deli and grocery is expanding next door and hopes to offer sit-down service.

Domingo's on Ventura Boulevard knows it has a good thing going.

Since 1948, the old-world-style Encino grocery and deli has served delicious subs, salads, lasagne and the like to an appreciative and, often, Italian-speaking crowd.

Now the self-titled "Little Italy of the Valley" at 17548 Ventura Blvd. hopes to bring some of that same old-world vibe to sit-down service.

The plan's to build the new dining room over the next few months, said Georgine Fascio, Domingo's manager.

She said Domingo's new owner has already leased out the new space. And he is working on getting the permits needed to serve alcohol.

Fascio said the menu is likely to be similar to the deli's mix of sandwiches and hot Italian standards like lasagne and pasta, but would add things like fish.

The deli and grocery would remain.

When we visited, construction did not appear to have started on the space, although brown paper is already hanging in the windows.
