Tyrone Isumu is accused of beating and severely injuring a man in Griffith Park.

A 54-year-old Encino man was charged today with attempted murder for allegedly beating and severely injuring a man in Griffith Park on Monday afternoon.

The criminal complaint alleges that the victim, whose name has not been released, suffered great bodily injury, noting that he is comatose and has paralysis.

Police said the victim and suspect were both known to frequent a homeless encampment in the area and they became involved in a dispute that led to the attack. Prosecutors said, however, that Isumu has an address in Encino.

Isumu, who was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Monday, was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $530,000 bail. He is due back in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on Nov. 18, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
