Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center announces new music therapy program

The hospital launched its music therapy program focusing on the emotional, psychological and developmental needs of its tiniest patients.

Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center has launched an innovative Music Therapy Program in its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), enhancing care for newborns and their families.

Led by board-certified music therapist Jenna Marcovitz, MA, MT-BC, CCLS, the NICU Music Therapy Program integrates evidence-based music interventions into the specialized care of the hospital’s smallest patients. The therapy sessions may include soothing lullabies, rhythmic patterns and parent-involved musical activities, all tailored to each infant’s unique developmental needs.

“Music therapy supports the developmental and emotional needs of infants, while empowering families to actively participate in their child’s healing journey,” said Jenna Marcovitz. We are thrilled to offer this unique program in our NICU.

Music therapy has been shown to deliver significant benefits to newborns in the NICU, including improved vital signs, enhanced feeding and sleep patterns and increased comfort. The program also supports emotional and psychological well-being for both infants and their families, fostering an environment of healing and connection during challenging times.

This new offering complements the hospital’s robust multidisciplinary care, which features 24/7 neonatologist coverage for high-risk deliveries and access to a comprehensive team of pediatric sub-specialists. The introduction of music therapy further demonstrates Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center’s dedication to advancing patient care and providing innovative, family-centered services to the community.
