3 Arrested During DUI Checkpoint In Escondido
In addition, 18 drivers were cited for driving without a license, and one was cited for driving on a suspended license.

ESCONDIDO, CA — Three people were arrested during a DUI checkpoint over the weekend in Escondido, authorities said.
One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, another driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant, and a third driver was arrested for drug possession, according to the Escondido Police Department. In addition, 18 drivers were cited for driving without a license, and one was cited for driving on a suspended license.
The checkpoint was held from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Centre City Parkway and Decatur Avenue. Of the 1,496 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 749 motorists were contacted, police said.

"DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes," police said in a news release. "The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads."
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
