ESCONDIDO -- One person was arrested Friday night in Escondido for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, police said. The driver was arrested at a DUI checkpoint at 2nd Avenue and Broadway. Escondido police said more than 1,700 cars went through the checkpoint with 971 going through a primary checkpoint. Of those, 46 cars went through another screening, police said. Sixteen citations were issued and two cars were impounded, police said. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. --Photo via Shutterstock
