Area High Schoolers Compete at Masters Track and Field Meet
3 Jesuit students, 1 each from Del Campo & El Camino qualify for st. meet.
Carmichael-area high school students wrapped up competition on Friday in the two-day Sac-Joaquin Section track and field Masters Meet at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, with three students and one each from Del Campo and El Camino qualifying for next month's state meet.
's Stephen Boals won the shot put event, with a throw of 59 feet, 6 inches. On Thursday, Boals, who next year, took third in the discus with a throw of 171 feet and 9 inches. The top three finishers in each event qualify for the state finals June 3 and 4 in Clovis.
"(Friday's shot put mark) is not as high as I'd like going into state," Boals said. "I'm gonna try to go big at state and get that title."

Del Campo's Jordan Rushing won the boys 1600 meter final with a time of 4:17.87.
Jesuit's Austin Mitsch took second in the 100 meter dash on Friday in a time of 10.72 seconds, behind Breonntae Snelling of Kennedy who won in 10.66. Mitsch, a sophomore, finished seventh in the 200 meter final, with a time of 22.37.

"I'm just so excited to run with the best of the best," Mitsch said. "Second place (in the 100m) as a sophomore is pretty good."
Colton Misono of Jesuit finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.02 behind Sean Gomes of Beyer with 1:55.91 and Darrell Jackson of Fairfield in 1:57.
"I'm stoked; last year, I didn't think this was a possibility," said Misono, who will attend Seattle University. "But I came out with a new attitude and it worked."
El Camino's Chris Kigar was third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:17.17 behind Davis' Trevor Halsted with 9:14.45 and Brian De La Mora in 9:14.99.
