Carmichael Fitness Expert Headed to London Olympics

A Carmichael fitness expert is headed to the Summer Olympics in London.

Desiree McGuire, the club manager at the Carmichael Active club, has been selected from about 21,000 24 Hour Fitness employees nationwide to staff and support America's best athletes at the United States Olympic Committee’s High Performance Training Center in London, where Team USA will train and prepare for the games, according to a news release.

24 Hour Fitness is an official sponsor of the USOC and Official Fitness Center Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams.

McGuire was selected based on merit, performance and her ability to help people reach their fitness goals, the release stated. As part of this distinguished group of fitness professionals going to London, she will oversee operations of the HPTC facility and assist Team USA with their workout needs, which could include training).

McGuire has been an employee at 24 Hour Fitness for five years, the release stated. By integrating a regular fitness routine into her life, she no longer experiences pain associated with her cervical degenerative disc disease. She also plays softball in her spare time.

US men's volleyball player Gabe Gardner, who will compete in the London Olympics, is from Carmichael, KCRA 3 reported.
