Carmichael Kiwanis Award Arts Grants To Schools

Deterding, Cameron Ranch among schools receiving grants.

The Carmichael Kiwanis, working with the San Juan Arts Advisory group of the , awarded $5,000 in grants to the district's visual and performing arts teachers and their projects.

The money was raised through the See's Candy holiday sales. The projects were evaluated on their innovation, creativity, alignment with district and visual and performing arts goals, sustainability, and estimated overall effectiveness.

The Kiwanis, headed up by Michael Koerner, withstood winter weather and long hours to raise money for the arts. The visual and performing arts teachers and coordinator said they are grateful to the Carmichael Kiwanis and for the opportunity to use these funds to offer some extremely exciting programs for students.

The awards given include:

-Murals created by the Advanced Art students at Del Campo High School for campus beautification. Teacher - Rene Worley, $500

-Microphones for performance and presentation at . Teacher - George Dozet, $500

-Printmaking Workshop with the Crocker at . Teacher - Carolyn Walters, $390
