Carmichael Sister of UFC Fighter in Coma

The sister of mixed martial arts fighter Urijah Faber, both of whom live in Carmichael, was critically injured in a car accident after finishing Black Friday shopping at the Roseville Galleria, The Sacramento Bee is reporting.

Michaella Tastad, 19, received life-threatening head trauma following a 3 a.m. crash and is in a medically induced coma at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Faber told The Bee. On Monday, Faber said his family received their first good news when doctors briefly took his sister off medicine that induces the coma.

Tastad attends Sierra College in Rocklin and lives next door to Faber in a row of houses he owns in Carmichael, The Bee reported.

Faber, who is a bantamweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship organization, defeated Brian Bowles at UFC 139 in San Jose on Nov. 19.
