Jesuit HS Student Planned Local 9/11 Memorial

Alex Aprea says he was inspired by visit to World Trade Center site.

Carmichael student Alex Aprea has organized a 9/11 memorial to be placed in Sacramento's Cesar Chavez Park for three weeks around the Sept. 11 holiday.

The display features two 13-feet-high I-beams and a piece of steel from the Twin Towers. Aprea, a freshman at , said he got the idea following a family trip to the World Trade Center site in New York City in 2009 and speaking with the president of the tribute center, who had lost his son on 9/11.

"It amazed me that he could still talk about it without blaming anyone so that made me want to do something for 9/11," Aprea said.
