Deputies Shoot Man at Marconi Ave. Apartment
Officials say he charged them holding a knife.

A man was shot early this morning by Sacramento County sheriff's deputies at a Marconi Avenue apartment complex after sheriff's officials said he approached them holding a knife held over his head, the sheriff's office announced.
At about 4:30 a.m., deputies responded to an apartment complex at 5018 Marconi Avenue, in response to a call of gunshots being fired, Dep. Jason Ramos said in a news release.
Deputies located a suspect inside an apartment and knocked on the door. They were immediately confronted by a man who opened the door and began to step outside. As he did so, deputies observed him holding a knife over his head, and advancing rapidly toward them, Ramos said.

Faced with imminent danger to their lives, two deputies fired their service weapons at the subject. The male sustained a single gunshot wound to his upper body, at which time he dropped the knife and retreated back into the apartment, Ramos said.
Deputies immediately requested emergency medical personnel to the scene and detained the man while they arrived. The subject was later transported to an area hospital, where his condition was not believed to be life-threatening, Ramos said.

Members of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and the Professional Standards Division will be conducting the investigation, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs with department personnel in the Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction, Ramos said. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will also conduct investigation into this incident.
In accordance with the Sheriff’s Department’s policies and procedures, both deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Ramos said. The deputies involved are assigned to the Sheriff’s Department’s North Patrol Division, and have thirteen years and nine years of service, respectively, with the Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting victim will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for charges that include assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, after he is medically cleared for incarceration, Ramos said.
