Female Suspect Swipes Wallet from Distracted Shopper’s Cart

The suspect then used the victim's credit card to buy groceries and gift cards at a Carmichael grocery store.

A woman had her wallet stolen while she was grocery shopping at Safeway in Carmichael earlier this week.

A female suspect allegedly followed the woman around the grocery store on Manzanita Avenue until she stepped away from her shopping cart. That’s when the suspect reportedly took the wallet out of the victim’s purse, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department crime log.

While the victim shopped, the suspect used one of the fraudulent credit cards to purchase groceries and gift cards.

The suspect, described as a female between 35 and 40 years old, 5’2” and about 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, left the store before the victim realized her wallet was missing.

Last month a similar situation was reported in nearby Roseville, in which one person distracted the shopper in conversation while another takes the wallet or purse from the shopping cart.
