Fires Reported Around Carmichael Overnight

At least five fires reported, mostly in dumpsters.

Sacramento Metro Fire District firefighters responded to at least five fires in the Carmichael area late Monday and into this morning, fire officials have confirmed.

Most occurred in dumpsters and there were no injuries reported. Sac Metro reports indicate the first fire was reported at about 7:50 p.m. Monday at 4126 Manzanita Ave. at the Manzanita Plaza.

At about 11:45 p.m., fires were reported at 5307 Marconi Ave. and a dumpster nearby. A witness reported seeing someone in the area riding a bicycle and carrying a bottle and lighter.

There are no suspects for the fires at this time, said Sac Metro Fire Asst. Chief Scott Cockrum.

"We have several arson fires in the area every year so it's unclear if these are standard fires or perhaps connected to Los Angeles (arson) fires (which locals may have copied)," Cockrum said. "We don't have any idea."

Fires were also reported in the North Highlands area.
