First Candidate for Honorary Mayor Files Application
Esteban Nava of SMUD filed Wednesday.

Carmichael resident Esteban Nava is the first candidate to turn in his application to run for , the announced.
Nava, a critical infrstructure protection compliance specialist with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, applied Wednesday on his birthday.
"I believe that the honorary mayor position can positively influence Carmichael," he said. "I'm planning to win it...by integrating kids and families and hope to represent Carmichael at community events."

Nava said he has coached in the Carmichael Soccer Club and plans to hold fundraiser barbecues and swim parties. He said he wants to see the local business community thrive.
"I want to make it a place where people come and stay to shop and play," Nava said. "If we want businesses in Carmichael (to succeed), we need to invest."

Nava said he also would like to see the chamber thrive with a full-time staff and would push for more fundraising efforts.

Applicants must live or work in Carmichael, be at least 18 years of age and be a chamber member. The applicant who turns in the most money for the chamber fundraiser wins.
Previous year's candidates held various fundraisers as a way to bring in money. Each dollar raised counts for one vote.
The deadline to file for honorary mayor is Sept. 15.
