Forum on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying Tonight at Rio Americano HS

Begins at 7 p.m.

The Sacramento Valley Hi Tech Crimes Task Force will present a cyber safety forum tonight at Rio Americano High School, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced.

The forum, titled “Cyber Citizenship 101”, will begin at 7 p.m. at the school, located at 4540 American River Drive in Sacramento. This event is hosted by the Rio Americano Parent Teacher and Student Association and is free and open to the public.

Cyber safety and cyber bullying are recognized as significant issues facing today’s
youth, sheriff's officials said. With the advent and prevalence of smart phones with Internet access, text messages, instant messaging, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites, cyber safety has never been more important.

This event will be presented by Det. Steven Emert of the Twin Rivers Police
Department. Emert is currently assigned to the task force, a federally and
state-funded agency managed by the county sheriff’s department with
agents from federal, state and local agencies. Through this collaboration,
Emert presents cyber safety forums at schools and for community groups throughout Sacramento County.
