Girls Basketball Playoffs: Del Campo Falls At Inderkum

Sac. Waldorf wins, plays again Friday.

Fighting until the end, the Del Campo girls basketball team came up just short in the opening round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on Tuesday at Inderkum in Natomas.

Cougars junior guard Ash Monk came off the bench to score 20 points, including a three-point basket as the shot clock buzzer sounded with less than a minute to play to bring her team within a basket. But with 12 seconds left, DC missed a couple of shots, as the Tigers escaped with a 56-53 win.

"All year, there has never been a time when there hasn't been hustle from my team," Del Campo coach JJ Anderson said after the game. "It was a tight game and [Inderkum] played well in the end."

Junior center Megan Roberson added 13 points for the Cougars. Inderkum was led by junior guard Sakara Brewer with 21 points and senior guard Ericka Magana with 18.

But it was Monk who kept DC in it to the end.

"She made huge shots and she's capable of doing that... as a scoring factor off the bench," Anderson said. "For our younger players [including Monk, Roberson and co-captain Laura Noble], it's nice to have this playoff experience going forward."

In other Fair Oaks basketball news, the Sacramento Waldorf girls defeated Stone Ridge Christian of Merced 52-31 behind 14 points each from senior forward Savannah Telford and junior guard Hazel Critchfield. The Waves head to Rosemont to face Capital Christian on Thursday.

In Division II boys playoff action tonight, Bella Vista hosts Rio Americano, its nearby rival of sorts from the Carmichael area and Del Campo hosts Yuba City, both at 7 p.m.

In Division V, the Sac Waldorf boys, led by scoring phenom Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten, host tonight's winner between Forest Lake and Elliot Christian on Friday.
