"It's a rivalry game and I think we showed heart from the second set on," said El Camino coach Marty Soyama. "Give credit to Rio. They played hard tonight."

The Raiders were led by junior middle blocker and outside hitter Maddie Cannon (15 kills, two errors, 24 attempts, four blocks) and senior outside hitter Lauren Kirschke (eight kills, four errors, 25 attempts, 22 digs, 24 service receptions). Senior setter Ariana Garner added four aces, four blocks, 41 assists and 14 digs while freshman libero Brooke Watson stepped up with 20 digs and 24 service receptions.

The two teams meet again at Rio (15-5) on Oct. 17 and at El Camino (18-1) on Senior Night on Nov. 2.

"We're preparing and improving in some areas as the season goes on," Riddering said. "We're working on getting better."
