Hazel Avenue Project Set to Finish By End of July
The $42 million project will add new and widened lanes as well as a new bike trail path.
Expect delays along Hazel Avenue between U.S. 50 and Curragh Downs Drive as construction on the improvement project nears completion.
Starting June 13, for a two-week period, there will be nighttime lane and off-ramp closures for the Hazel Avenue Improvement Project, according to Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) press release.
The lane and off-ramp closures are necessary for paving work to resurface Hazel Ave. from U.S. 50 to Curragh Downs Dr.

“The whole project is expected to be completed by the end of July,” said SacDOT spokesman, Dan Regan.
The westbound U.S. 50 to Hazel off-ramp closures will be fully closed to all motor vehicles from June 15-17 and again on June 20-22 from 9 p.m. till 5 a.m. Hazel Ave. from U.S. 50 to Curragh Downs Dr. will have multiple lane closures on June 13-24 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Northbound motorists can use Folsom Boulevard or Sunrise Blvd. as detours, said Regan. Changeable message signs are in place to provide motorists with detour information.
“They’re paving that entire area and they’ll probably do it one lane at a time,” Regan said.
According to SacDOT, there will always be at least one lane open in each direction throughout the lane closure period.
Motorists that do use Hazel are advised to use caution throughout the construction area and observe the posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour.
The Hazel Ave. Improvement Project has been ongoing since late last year and has met with its fair share of and , but is finally expected to finish by the end of July.
The $42 million project, which will widen the roadway from four to six lanes, includes the use of rubberized asphalt a new bike path and the widening of lanes.
