Interactive Map: See How Many Concealed Weapon Permit Holders Live in Your ZIP Code

With the exception of law enforcement, of the more than 450 people living in Sacramento County authorized to carry a concealed weapon, 21 live in Fair Oaks.

More than 4.5 percent of Sacramento’s concealed weapon permit-holders live in Fair Oaks.

Fair Oaks Patch, with help from our colleagues over at Rosemont Patch, analyzed the list of concealed weapon permits issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department as of Jan. 25.  According to that information, the areas with the largest concentration of concealed weapon permit-holders are Carmichael, Folsom, Arden Arcade and part of Elk Grove.

In light of recent Fair Oaks events involving accidental shootings, arrests, concealed weapons permits continue to be a hot topic. The issue was heavily debated during the 2010 sheriff’s race, with all three major candidates vowing to ease the process to obtain concealed weapon permits.

Permit applications are on the rise, according to the Sacramento Bee. Last year, 196 people applied to carry a concealed weapon – up from 103 in 2009. The year before that, only 22 people applied.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and Sacramento Police Department both issue the permits, but the city police department issues far fewer. That department only has about three current permits issued to residents, Sacramento Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said.
