No. 2 Sheldon Too Much For No. 1 Jesuit

Huskies run over Marauders in Carmichael.

Friday's much anticipated and hyped game between and Sheldon, the two top-ranked high school boys basketball teams in the area, was a tale of two halves.

In the first half, boys teams played fast and traded baskets and the Huskies, ranked No. 2 by The Sacramento Bee, led the No. 1 Marauders 37-35 at halftime.

Then Sheldon poured it on in the third quarter, going on a 13-2 run and outscoring Jesuit 31-15. The Huskies were just too strong and too fast for the Marauders, winning 88-70 in the clash of Delta River League titans.

Junior Dakarai Allen led Sheldon with 29 points and junior guard D'erryl Williams had 18, including a fast-break dunk for the highlight reel. Senior guard Kurt Parker led the Marauders with 18 points and senior guard Parker Uu had 14.

"It's a high-paced offense Jesuit has and we've been conditioning to get ready for them," Allen said. "You have to stop their main scorers, Parker U'u and Kurt Parker; you find their scorers and shut them down."

Jesuit coach Greg Harcos and the Marauders had no answers for Sheldon, who got rebounds, ran out on the break and seemed to make every three point basket they shot. It was just more Huskies dominance that continued from last season, when they .

"We always step up in big games; we rebounded well and we did a great job defending tonight," said Sheldon coach Joey Rollings. "Dakarai is our defensive stopper; he hit some big shots."
