Jesuit Wrestlers Ready for Section Championships

Sophomores are only Marauders in Stockton tournament.

Marauder wrestlers Brandon Dishno and Gilbert Martinez will take to the mats this weekend at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling Championships at the Stockton Arena as the only Marauders in the tournament.

Dishno and Martinez are both only sophomores at the Carmichael high school but are already leaders among a young group of wrestlers who are mostly freshmen and sophomores, with a few juniors and no seniors. Their youth is evident in most matches, including earlier dual meets against and .

(The section tournament) is a big opportunity and a big responsibility," said Martinez, who will be wrestling in the 103-lb. weight class. Martinez said he has consistently finished in the Top 3 in his weight class in several competitions.

Dishno, who will compete in the 135-lb-weight class, ackowledged that the sport is time consuming and that the team spends most Saturdays during the season attending competitions. For the section championships, which are held today and Saturday, teammates, coaches and family members are taking a caravan down to Stockton.

"I'm kind of nervous because it's my first time (in the section tournament) but I'm excited as well," Dishno said.
