Late Fees Waived at Local Animal Shelters

Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation is offering "pet licensing amnesty" through October 31.

Sacramento County representatives are giving residents added incentive to renew lapsed animal licenses.

From now till the end of October, Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation will waive its $100 late fee for animal license renewals. Online surcharges will also be waived.

According to the county, licensing has several benefits:

  • Animal control officers will return lost licensed animals directly to the owner's home instead of taking them to the shelter
  • The pet's first impound fee will be waived if it's lost
  • The pet will be held longer at the shelter
  • Injured licensed animals can be taken directly to the owner's veterinarian of choice.

Licensing fees in unincorporated parts of the county start at $15 for spayed or neutered animals and $150 for unaltered pets. Click here to view a PDF flier with the full list of rates.

Licensing is available online, at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter east area service center in Fair Oaks, by mail, at participating veterinarians or at other county service centers. More information is available on the county's website.
