Update: Man Believed To Be From Fair Oaks Dies After Being Struck By Car

California Highway Patrol spokesperson, Lizz Dutton explains the man may have stepped out into oncoming traffic.

UPDATE: California Highway Patrol spokesperson, Lizz Dutton has confirmed the victim of the collision is no longer believed to be a Fair Oaks resident. Family members confirm the victim, Brandon Jones, 29, is a Sacramento resident.

A 29-year-old man believed to be from Fair Oaks has reportedly died after being struck vehicle Tuesday night on Watt Ave. in North Highlands, California Highway Patrol spokesperson, Lizz Dutton said in a statement.

According to a statement released by Dutton, a black Volkswagen Jetta being driven by 51-year-old Sacramentan, Diane DiMartini struck the man around 9 p.m. DiMartini was traveling southbound on Watt at speeds of about 35 to 40 mph when the white male pedestrian stepped out into the lane. Dutton explained the man was wearing primarily dark clothing making him difficult to be seen.

Paramedics responded to the accident where they pronounced the man dead on the scene from blunt force trauma, Dutton said.

DiMartini is not being detained and isn’t likely to be charged with a crime.

It was concluded DiMartini was not under the influence while driving. Toxicology reports on Jones have so far been inconclusive.
