Man Vandalizes Carmichael Post Office

Police say he tried to steal fire engine.

A 43-year old man detained early Sunday morning after police say he broke windows at the and tried to steal a fire engine will not be arrested for the incident, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced.

The man, whose identity was not released, allegedly burglarized the on the 6900 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m., Dep. Jason Ramos, a Sheriff's spokesman, told The Sacramento Bee.

After the man was transported to the hospital for cuts he received from broken glass, deputies were relieved by U.S. postal inspectors, who took over supervising him at the hospital. They have since released him from the hospital and told Ramos that they would not arrest him, Ramos said.

"It's hard to tell what his intent was," Ramos told The Bee when asked about motive. "This guy was under the influence. You couldn't get a coherent statement out of him."
