Mercy President: 'Health Care Not Recession Proof'

Health care is not recession proof, president Brian Ivie told Carmichael business and community leaders on Tuesday.

"It's a time of change now for health care; the economy has had a negative impact on providers," Ivie said during a luncheon at . "But our mission at Mercy San Juan remains to serve the poor and underserved."

Ivie spoke about the Affordable Care Act, signed by President Barack Obama that addresses rising costs, improves access to higher quality care and protects consumers.

At Mercy San Juan, a focus on preventative health, as well as a commitment to technology, have made it a "destination hospital", Ivie said.

In other chamber news, new members include Genghis Khan Kitchen, Mutual of Omaha and Western Health Advantage.
