The girls tennis team is rolling along with its top players undefeated in match play going into today's section playoffs against Kennedy at Del Norte Tennis Club.
"The key to this team is that they're peaking at the right time," said Matadors coach Amitava Mitra.
This year's squad is the second Mira Loma team to have an undefeated league record in two of the past three years, Mitra said. Olga Yulayeva, Alice Ni, Jimin Choi and Jennifer Yau were on the 2009 team that was also undefeated. The varsity team's grade point average is 4.41 and the girls are students.

Yulayeva, the No. 1 singles player and a junior, said the team's highlight of the season so far was when the top three singles players helped the team win a tournament in Fresno on Sept. 11.
"I think we'll definitely make it to the finals but Granite Bay is a tough team," she said.

The top doubles team is comprised of freshman Uma Desai and sophomore Shirley Shen.
Jimin Choi is a top senior on the team and says Mira Loma will benefit from having so many experienced players, despite their overall young ages.
"We definitely have a stronger team this year," said Choi, adding that would like to at least play intermural tennis in college and is considering several schools in the University of California system as well as Stanford.
