New Red Light Cameras Go Live
The new red light cameras at Auburn Boulevard and Garfield Avenue are live, but for a period of 30 days, violators will receive a written warning.

For a period of 30 days, red light violators will receive a grace-period while the Sacramento Metropolitan Red Light Photo Enforcement Detail installs a new digital red light photo enforcement camera system on Auburn Boulevard at Garfield Avenue. The new system is currently being tested and went “live” on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 12:01 a.m.
During the 30-day period, red light violators will be mailed a warning notice, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department press release. On Oct. 13 at 12:01 a.m., anyone running a red light at the Auburn Blvd./Garfield Ave. intersection can expect to receive citations by mail. Issued citations include a referral to a website where the violator can view the still and/or video images of the violation, according to the release.
Statewide, data is collected that shows which intersections have higher numbers of accidents, and citations occurring, said Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jason Ramos.

"That is the basis for deciding where to put the cameras — to cut down on the accidents, primarily (hopefully)," Ramos said in an e-mail.
There are two other red light cameras in the Fair Oaks/Carmichael areas: Madison Ave. and Sunrise Blvd and Manzanita and Cypress avenues.
