The eight-day Jewish celebration began Tuesday.

Carmichael's held a Chanukah service on Friday evening with the lighting of a menorah, blessings and chants.

The eight-day Jewish celebration known as Hanukkah or Chanukah commemorates the rededication during the second century B.C. of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where according to legend Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt, according to History.com.

"As the festival of lights, it illuminates what is most important to me- family, friends, Jewish traditions, values and caring for others," said David Ginsburg, a CBS member.
