Mira Loma Run Over By Highlands

Matadors had short week to prepare for Scots.

The were hoping to build upon a win last week but had only a few days to to prepare for a Thursday matchup against Highlands.

In a game that was sloppy on both sides, with fumbles and missed point-after attempts, the Matadors lost 32-7 to the Scots.

"We had a lack of offensive production," said Mira Loma Coach Matt Costa. "We made a bunch of miscues off a short week of practice."

Mira Loma responded about two minutes later with a touchdown by junior tight end Spencer Street from junior quarterback Wes Van Der Mik.

The game remained tied until the Scots went off for a 66-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Malachiah Parker from fellow senior quarterback Jeremiah Parker (it's unknown if the two Parkers are related) with just over a minute until halftime. The kick after was blocked, leaving the score at the half: Highlands 13, Mira Loma 7.

Highlands scored again at the 6:00 mark of the third, as senior running back Kenneth Miles broke free for a 40-yard touchdown. Again, the point after attempt was no good.

The onslaught continued against the Matadors in the fourth. Scots senior linebacker Ray Edwards intercepted a Van Der Mik pass at the 16 yard line and ran it back for the score.

The final points came, perhaps fittingly for Highlands, on a fumble recovery by junior defensive back David Tolentino at the 20-yard line. The kick attempt failed.

Mira Loma next plays Liberty Ranch of Galt on Sept. 16 at .
