Readers Ask Questions, Fair Oaks Patch Answers

Recent questions into local issues warrant a response while answers are found.

Recently two users posed questions in Fair Oaks Patch's open Q&A forum and before we answered them fully, we thought it important to direct attention to the questions. As important of questions the readers felt to post them, it's this publication's responsibility to get to the bottom of them.

Frequent reader and Fair Oaks pathfinder, , posed the , "Will we be able to park at Red Bridge ever again?"

According to reports filed by Sacramento County Department of Neighborhood Services, neighbors close to the Fair Oaks Bridge (aka Red Bridge) had put to vote along with members of the DNS the decision to cease parking privileges along Bridge St. The decision came as a result of concerns of danger to neighbors and pedestrians, vandalism to the area and loiterers.

"Community outreach was conducted," said East County Service Area Manager, Keri Blaskoski. "Everyone had an opportunity to have input, but the Department of Transportation ultimately made the call."

As a result, parking was no longer allowed along Bridge St. and there are no plans to lift the ban.

"The Dept. of Transportation gave the means," Blaskoski said. "The county takes the reigns on something like that; Fair Oaks isn't proactive on something like that."

Blaskoski explained the initiative became very successful and the concerns residents had prior to the parking ban were mitigated. She went on to explain the alternative parking options residents still have.

"People were given the option to park and pay the $5 per day or they can buy an annual parking pass for $50," Blaskoski said.

That parking is available on the Rancho Cordova side of the American River. The money, Blaskoski said, goes toward maintaining the American River Parkway. Annual permits can be purchased at the Sac County Dept. of Neighborhood Services at 5229 Hazel Ave.

Reader,  posed the question, "What's going on at the Olive St. entrance to Sailor Bar in Fair Oaks?"

While we're still investigating this question, we can report at this point right now, the project at the end of Olive Ave. near Sailor Bar appears to be part of a water remediation project in a joint sponsorship between Boeing, Aerojet and the GenCorp, Inc. Headquarters.

Fair Oaks Patch will be following up on this issue and will have a full report on the project soon.
