Resident Couple at Carmichael Oaks Ties Knot

Groom and bride, both 84, met at senior complex.

A couple of residents at the Carmichael Oaks Senior Living complex proved it's never to late to tie the knot earlier this year, complex officials announced.

Kenn Johnson and Lola Chan, both 84, were married on Jan. 15. The couple, who met at Carmichael Oaks, was married at the North Highlands home of Lola’s son Dan and his wife Deann.

Patty Colmer, Lola's daughter, served as the Maid of Honor and the Best Man was Bruce Colmer, Lola's son-in-law.

In attendance were the newlywed couple's immediate family members coming from areas including Washington, D.C., Portland, Ore., and Torrance, Calif. and surrounding areas. The youngest was Lola's 2 year old great-grandchild, Silk. About 30 family members attended and Stan Parker of Rocklin was the administering reverend, Carmichael Oaks officials said.

The ceremony was adorned with white wicker standing baskets filled with bright pinks, whites and sprigs of green flowers and the bride's bouquet was the same colors as the bride's attire. She wore a soft pastel printed chenille long sleeve top with shimmering oyster shell and light teal green long skirt. The groom wore a soft medium brown suit with an enhancing tie. The groom's boutonnière was a soft white rose with babies breath.

The menu was petite filet mignon, soft crusted tilapia, rice pilaf, green beans and a pasta salad. The wedding cake was a three-tiered carrot cake with a diamond pearl effect with soft pink flowers on the top. The ceremony was followed by piano, and accordion music. For the honeymoon, the couple is scheduled to go on a month-long cruise from Singapore to Vancouver, B.C., Canada in the near future, Carmichael Oaks officials said.
