Woe to the return of the regular work week. Like so many good things before it, the holiday weekend has long but past, leaving some to wonder what to do now. Fear not, for we have a few ideas to at least inspire that creative plan-making thinking. Today show the kids what "roughing it" really meant with historical tales of the Gold Rush. presents a new gallery from local artist Donna Naes. Fair Oaks chickens, beware, today also marks National Fried Chicken day. Who's hungry?

Wild and Rowdy Mining Camp
Get down and dirty (OK, so maybe not that dirty) with the kids at Orangevale Library at 6826 Hazel Avenue. Take a trip back in time to when men and women were defined by the amount of gold they held in satchel; where men toiled and tussled for shiny bits of metal found in river beds all across Fair Oaks and the greater Sacramento area. Take a tour with gold country fiddler Dave to some famous mining camps as he shares fascinating and curious stories from those wild and rowdy days. Storytime kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and ends around 4:30.
National Fried Chicken Day
It's too bad the Fair Oaks chickens can't read or operate a computer. If they could they'd know to stay bundled up in the coop as today marks National Fried Chicken Day. Why not take advantage of the opportunity to cook up something special in honor(?) of the community's favorite fine-feathered friend.
