Sac. Metro Fire Announces New Chief

Kurt Henke is appointed to post.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District's Board of Directors announced that Kurt Henke has been appointed as the district's new fire chief, district officials said late Thursday.

Henke replaces former Sac. Metro Fire Chief William Sponable, who retired April 1.

Henke was hired as the deputy chief of operations for the department in October 2009. His professional career began in 1984 as a firefighter/EMT with the Department of the Navy, Skaggs Island Fire Department.

Henke has also worked with the City of Vallejo Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter and captain, among other positions.

Details for Henke's swearing-in ceremony will be announced at a later date.
