SacCounty Climate Action Plan End Of Year Update

In September 2021, Planning and Environmental Review (PER) – now part of the Community Development Department – released a draft of the Climate Action Plan (CAP) that was meant to be the Final Draft. Based on valuable community feedback, and in response to the Board of Supervisors resolution declaring a climate emergency, the CAP is once again being updated.

Notable updates to the CAP include:

• Strengthening language related to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, including work by the Climate Emergency Mobilization Task Force on the Climate Emergency Response Plan expected to begin in early 2022;
• Revising the Carbon Farming, Infill Development, Increase Organic Waste Diversion, and Urban Greening measures;
• Incorporating measures from the Strategy Options (Appendix F); and
• Cleaning up errors identified during the outreach process.

“We remain committed to developing the best Climate Action Plan for Sacramento County that addresses residents’ concerns and places us on a path toward the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030,” said Todd Smith, Principal Planner. “We are working hard on the CAP updates and look forward to the community’s feedback.” The next draft of the CAP is due out in February 2022. Public comments will be accepted for a period of 30 days following the release of the draft CAP. A board workshop on the CAP will be held in March 2022.
