UPDATE: Coroner Identifies Fair Oaks Woman Killed at Home Sunday
Moses Stanely Trotter, also of Fair Oaks, is being held on suspicion of murdering 79-year-old Carole Jane Sturgis.
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man covered in blood on suspicion of homicide in connection with the death of an elderly Fair Oaks woman in her home Sunday evening.
Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos identified the man as Moses Stanley Trotter, 32, of Fair Oaks and the woman as Carole Jane Sturgis, 79.
According to a Sheriff's Department report, deputies were called to the 4900 block of Durland Way in Fair Oaks regarding a suspicious person. A resident said that he had found a man inside his home and chased him out. The man then reportedly ran down the street and went into another residence in the neighborhood.

Deputies arrived in the area later, the report says, and were told that the man had gone into a house in the 7800 block of Olympic Way. Deputies assembled outside and informed any occupants to come outside. Moments later, a naked man, later identified by deputies as Trotter, came running outside the home, covered in blood. He fell to the ground at the base of the driveway and was detained by deputies.
Deputies went into the house and discovered Sturgis inside.

According to the report, Sturgis showed signs of trauma, and paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner's office has classified the death as a homicide.
