San Juan Unified School District spokesman Trent Allen confirms the shelter status at Mission Avenue Elementary School has been lifted and kids are being picked up from school as usual.
The suspect was wanted by U.S. Marshals following incidents involving gun and grand theft charges in the state of Washington. Sheriff's officials explained the suspect had ties to the Carmichael area which is why they suspect the man fled to the area.
According to a Sheriff's Department report, just before 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sheriff’s deputies were called to assist U.S. deputy marshals at the apartments in the 2800 block of Westwood Lane in Carmichael. According to the report, authorities were attempting to arrest the fugitive at the location, when he ran from them and into an apartment that he had just walked out of. A woman who exited the apartment with the suspect was detained immediately, Ramos said.
The report states the suspect broke out one of the apartment windows from the inside, and jumped onto the balcony while holding a shotgun. As marshals attempted to detain him, the fugitive jumpred from the balcony to another apartment, leaving the shotgun behind. Ramos said the fugitive then forced entry into that apartment by breaking through a window and going inside.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to the report. The suspect’s name and photograph will be released once he has been booked into jail.
