Sleeping Suspect Leaves Kicking and Screaming
One Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
On May 12 around 11 a.m. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a man asleep in front of a 9264 Madison Avenue business, and for whatever reason, he was refusing to leave. The suspect was later indentified as John Burlingham, 30, but upon contact gave a false name and date of birth to avoid arrest for an outstanding warrant.
"His warrants were releted to possession of a controlled substance," said Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos.
While Burlingham was being handcuffed, the lazy loiterer suddenlty sprang to life and attempted to flee. He struggled violently by swinging and kicking wildly, according to the deputy report. When the suspect was tackled by an arresting officer, Burlingham managed to reverse the tackle and slam the officer onto the concrete, causing her to land flat on her back, striking the back of her head.

Burlingham was eventually detained because he eventually complied and stopped struggling once deputies threatened to deploy a Taser on him, Ramos said.
"I guess the thought of being tased didn’t sound too good to him," Ramos said.
