Spring Fest Parade Is Going Big With A New Float
Local streets for this year's Spring Fest had to be assessed to ensure it could negotiate the narrow Village streets.
The folks behind the 62nd annual Fair Oaks Spring Fest want the planned features to be big. And they mean it in the most literal way possible.
Take, for example, one of the festival’s newest features - a Safeway-sponsored float more than 50-feet-long.
Members from the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce have been in talks with representatives from Safeway to ensure the float would be able to clear many of the narrow thoroughfares through Fair Oaks Village when it rolls through April 30, said Chamber of Commerce Director, Jan Bass-Otto.

The float, which was designed years ago, changes its décor depending on the theme of the parade, Safeway spokeswoman, Maria Schabbing said in an email.
“In some areas it is stucco, but different props are used,” Schabbing said. “It was a team effort (designing the float) years ago.”

When the float isn’t being used it is typically stored in a professional float yard, Schabbing said.
The float’s stop in Fair Oaks is just one of many locations it will be visiting throughout Northern California, Schabbing explained.
As part of this year’s Spring Fest “Go Green” theme, the float will feature floral designs as well as a number of different fruits and vegetables appropriate to the season.
Events begin Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m., with opening ceremonies and the parade, featuring the float, through Fair Oaks Village.
