Week in Review, Feb. 26: Playoffs Fever, Fair Oaks Snow, Information Overload, Whiz Kids and More

A look back at the week ending Feb. 26.

Whether it was playoffs fever or the prospect of snow falling in the neighborhood, there was plenty to talk about in Fair Oaks this week. Needless to say, it was another busy week around town. Though it looks as if it’s the complete opposite of snowing outside, before heading out today, take a look back at some of the other stories that made headlines this week:

  1. – Paula Sugarman’s Sugarman Design Group has landed a spot on the walls of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in a Wine Exhibit titled “How Wine Became Modern.” The exhibit will run until April 17.
  2. – Fair Oaks was riding high on hopes of playoff victories as the week started out strong for Bella Vista’s boys varsity basketball team. The gentlemen Broncos deftly handled Vallejo’s Apaches Feb. 23.
  3. – Would it snow? How low would it go? Fair Oaks was buzzing with the prospect of snowy vistas as local and national meteorologists gave the neighborhood a 50:50 shot for frozen fluffy stuff.
  4. – Information invades our lives every single day, but nowadays it seems you can’t get away from it even when you want to. In the latest feature, our resident columnist and moms’ council chair, Terry Meier examines the impact of information overload on our kids and when to say, “that’s too much information!” Check it out, and if you have any advice for any of the Moms Talk features, let us know what you think in the comments.
  5. – The next stop for Bella Vista’s girls’ varsity basketball team is the University of the Pacific for the semifinals of the Division II playoffs as the Broncos defeated twelfth-seeded Benicia Thursday at Bella Vista High School. Bella Vista will meet St. Mary’s Wednesday, March 2 at 9 p.m.
  6. – Bella Vista’s boys’ varsity basketball team ended its season 9-1, leading their league after a rough preseason start. Check out some of the highlights from their season and how they plan for the future beyond this season’s playoffs.
  7. – Fair Oaks Park accommodates many activities, including its skate park that draws many locals on a brisk, dry day during the winter months. Check out the newest slideshow in Fair Oaks Patch’s ongoing photo gallery feature, .
  8. – It ended in high energy. The Antelope Titans thwarted the Broncos’ varsity boys’ basketball team Friday night at Antelope High. The Titans led throughout the game, but Bella Vista continued to keep things close until the very end.
  9. – Much like its Fair Oaks high school boys’ varsity basketball team, Bella Vista, Del Campo’s Cougars boys kept it close and exciting throughout its away game loss to Cordova’s Lancers in game two of D-II playoffs.
  10. – Each week Fair Oaks Patch names a Whiz Kid of the Week. This can be a kid, teen, sports, team, youth organization, etc. from Fair Oaks doing something unique and/or extraordinary. This week we feature Keith Lipp, Chair of the Fair Oaks Youth Advisory Board.

That’s just a bit of what happened last week. Be sure to check out all the news by clicking here for a larger list of the local goings on.
