Week in Review, July 9: Patriotic Revelry, Water Rates, Marijuana Dispensaries, More

A look back at the week ending July 9.

It was a week marked by patriotic celebration, revelry and remembrance. After the holiday hoopla, it was back to business as usual for people in Fair Oaks. Work returned and although the lazy days of summer remain in full effect, it was still a busy week for news in the area. For those coming back from an extended holiday or those just looking to catch up on all the news, here's a look back on the week ending July 9.

  1.  - Hundreds mourned the death of U.S. Marine Cpl. Gurpreet Singh at Mount Vernon Memorial Home in Fair Oaks July 2.
  2.  - Guest editor, Laura van der Meer opines on the tradition of Fourth of July festivities.
  3.  - Despite the cold, fast running waters of the American River, it was a relatively calm Fourth of July celebration.
  4.  - July 5 marked the first Spare the Air day in Fair Oaks as well as much of Sacramento County.
  5.  - Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation will waive its $100 late fee for animal license renewals.
  6.  - Sacramento County budget cuts have impacted local municipalities and public services. How have those cuts impacted your life?
  7.  - High speed pursuits, vandalism and drug possession all in the latest .
  8.  - Wholesale water rates will remain stable through 2012 before being reevaluated for 2013.
  9.  - Fair Oaks residents got their chance to voice their opinions on the impending hearing to discuss an urgency zoning ordinance for local marijuana dispensaries.
  10.  - The Fair Oaks-Orangevale Little League All Star team took on Whitney (Sacramento), emerging the victor in this all-star matchup.
