Week in Review, Sept. 3: Academic Performance, Teacher of the Year, Rock and Roll

A look back at the week ending Sept. 3.

Thus concludes yet another busy week of news in Fair Oaks and it's on to the three-day weekend. There was plenty going on too.   1.  - Three recent burglaries highlight schools' vulnerability, value of observant neighbors.
  2.  - The Brian Buckley Band is on a roll -- recording, touring and planning a Sacramento show.
  3.  - Nicole Naditz is San Juan Unified School District's nomination for teacher of the year.
  4.  - Bella Vista High School's volleyball team wants to repeat as league champions but advance further into the playoffs than last season and with almost all of the premier starters from last season back, it could happen.
  5.  - The building was formed in 1913, but was deemed to small to operate its basic function.
  6.  - New Academic Performance Index statistics were released Wednesday.
  7.  - Master Sgt. Noah Dula played an integral part in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, transporting top-ranking governmental officials from Washington D.C. to safe locations.
  8.  - Despite the perpetual decline in real estate value, Fair Oaks home sales have increased more than four percent.
  9.  - With eight returning players, the Bella Vista varsity girls field hockey team has big expectations for 2011.
  10.  - With the exception of one, all other area elementary schools have maintained or exceeded Academic Performance Index test scores since the system's inception in 1999.
