Where Should San Juan Unified Make Potential Staff Reductions?

School district begins unsavory task of deciding which positions are most expendable for potential staffing reductions.

The San Juan Unified Board of Education was to meet Wednesday to discuss potential staffing reductions as the district seeks solutions for a possible, worst-case budget deficit of $35 million.

At this point, the district will be looking at staffing positions across the board, including positions within the central office's administration (directors, coordinators and program specialists to name a few), school administrators (principals, vice principals, etc.), non-administrative K-12 positions (teachers) and adult education positions.

However, the list will likely change based on new information as it becomes available throughout the budget development process.

The Board of Education was expected to discuss the list at last night’s meeting and to take action on the list at its Feb. 28 meeting.

In the meantime, check the district website for up-to-date information on the district’s budget process, including a frequently-asked-questions document with answers to specific items included on this list of potential reductions. Questions that aren't answered can also be posed through this feedback form.
