Coordinated by Club Live and the Sacramento County Office of Education, the competition features about 90 students, ages 12 to 14, dancing and “singing” to current and recent pop music hits. Schools throughout Sacramento County recently held their own lip sync competitions, with the top winners selected to be in Friday’s countywide show.

"We chose a song and we've got a routine," said Hannah.

The girls have been preparing for the past month and practice their routine during their lunch break.

"We've been friends since the third grade," said Natalie.

Winners will receive cash prizes provided by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, plus gift certificates and awards supplied by local businesses.

The Club Live program provides opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills, build positive peer and adult relationships and become involved as active leaders and resources in their schools and communities, program officials said. Club Live is a program of the Sacramento County Office of Education, Prevention and Student Services Department.

In addition to Club Live, the three Barrett students are involved in other activities.

Mandi volunteers with Friends for Survival, a suicide prevention group. Natalie plays basketball. Hannah is a cheerleader and Girl Scout and plans to compete in track.

The Lip Sync Competition takes place at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students.
